GOVT TO BUILD NYAKANAZI ONE STOP BORDER POST



·        It will be the first of its kind in East Africa
·        To save as One Stop Inspection Station

THE government is implementing its strategic plan on construction of the Nyakanazi One Stop Border Post in Kagera region that will be the first of its kind in the East African Community.
Dr Ashatu Kijaji, Deputy Minister for Finance and Planning, told the Parliament yesterday, Tuesday, May 14, 2019 that the Nyakanazi OSBP will play a vital role for people around the area as well as the EAC countries, especially Rwanda and Uganda.
Dr Kijaji was responding to a supplementary question posed by a special seat MP, Hon. Halima Abdalallah Bulembo (CCM), who wanted to know the government’s plan to build a One Stop Center in Kagera region which borders other EAC countries.
This will be the second OSBP after the one built at Holili/Taveta on the Kenya/Tanzania border. The facility was built at the cost of approximately US$12 million from TradeMark East Africa (TMEA).
She said, construction of the Nyakanazi OSBP will help people from Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda to meet the market.
Responding to the principal question posed by the same MP, Dr Kijaji said the government is implementing a number of priority projects in Kagera region, that include the construction of the 371km Standard Gauge Railway from Isaka- Rusumo and rehabilitation of the 91km Lusahunga-Rusumo road.
“The government has already implemented an 80MW project at Rusumo and Mutukula border posts to intensify business activities with neighbouring countries of Rwanda and Uganda,” she said.
The deputy minister said, agricultural products from Kagera farmers and other industrial products benefit from the geographical of the region, with fish industries like Fish Co Ltd and Supreme Perch Ltd leading the way.
Other industries in the region are Ambiance Distillers Tanzania Ltd which produces fortified wines, Bunena Development Co. Ltd, NK Bottling Co. Ltd and Kabanga Bottlers Co. Ltd which produce bottled water and Mayawa Company which produce Rosella wine and juice.
