KAMPALA. The route map for the 2016 Centenary Bank-sponsored Rotary Cancer Run slated for this Sunday at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds has been released.

According to Charles Kabanda, a member of the organising committee for the run, participants will take part in the 5km, 10km and 21km races.
“The three routes we have are almost like last year’s and runners shouldn’t face many hurdles or challenges. We are running for charity and we need to make the route as accommodating to everyone as possible,” Kabanda said.

“The runners will be guided by the signage and marshals on the route and we have designated watering points for those who want to freshen up,” he added.
The Uganda Police is scheduled to hold a press conference this morning to reveal the security plans for the Run at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala.
Participants in the 21km race will start from Kololo, and see them going to Bugolobi, Industrial Area, Nakasero and back to Kololo while the 10km route starts from Kololo, Mulago, Lugogo Bypass and back.
More than 20,000 people are expected to hit the road to put cancer on the run, among who will be celebrities and socialites and the chief runner is Prince David Wasajja.

“At Centenary Bank we are committed to continuing with the partnership with Rotary, especially with the Rotary Cancer Programme. We need to recognise that the well-being of society depends very much on the contribution of everyone,” said Mr Fabian Kasi, the managing director, Centenary Bank.
Centenary Bank has been among the supporters of the Rotary clubs cancer activities and initiatives for over six years now and this year they are sponsoring the activities to a tune of Shs110 million.
The Run is expected to raise at least shs500 million to equip the Rotary-Centenary Bank Cancer Ward at Nsambya Hospital with a Linear Accelerator. The machine alone costs about $4 million.
