MALAWI, MOZAMBIQUE OFFICIALS MEET OVER NSANJE INLAND PORT

Government officials are set to meet their Mozambican counterparts on August 22 to discuss the Nsanje Inland Port project which has stalled for years now.
Transport and Public Works minister Malison Ndau confirmed he will be meeting his Mozambican counterpart from August 22 in Beira, Mozambique.

“Last week I met the secretary general of Sadc on the same issue. The whole region is now taking the project seriouisly after the Feasibility study showed that the Shire Zambezi Waterway project is viable and profitable to the whole region,” he said.
He said the feasibility study reports were already given to President Peter Mutharika and his Mozambican counterpart, Phillipe Nyuse when the two along with Zambia president Edgar Lungu met at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe a few months ago.
“President Nyuse seems to be very interested in this project and I am sure he will help us,” said Ndau.
He however said the low water levels in Shire River will not affect the implementation of the project.
Ndau said Mota Engil will continue to be the contractor for the Nsanje Inland Port.
The Shire Zambezi Waterway project and the Nsanje Inland Port are dream projects of former president Bingu wa Mutharika who dreamed of an international port city of Nsanje with its international airport and international street banks, among others.
