WHEN GIRLS OF THE TWILIGHT GO HI-TECH TO CHEAT

ANTHONY TAMBWE
WITH the Fifth Phase Government tightening the screws on prostitution, the twilight girls, as they are popularly known, have devised foolproof ways of continuing with their age-old trade.
In a move which complements the saying ‘since men have learned to shoot without missing, birds have learned to fly without perching’, the street girls have learned a better way of keeping the long arm of the law at bay.In a survey conducted by the ‘Sunday News’, it has been established that the twilight girls have resorted to using the social media to the maximum, where they are sure of conducting their business without fear of spending the night(s) as a ‘guest of the state’.
It was discovered that the major investment the girls have added to their business, which has continued to irk state organs, is the acquisition of a smart phone -- and they are ready to go.
“What happens is that with a fully equipped smart phone, we just need to ensure that we have enough internet bytes on the phone, download several social media applications... and the rest is history,” says Anastazia Mrema (we highly doubt if it is her real name).
She said that in recent days, the crackdown on their folk and kin by the police has put a dent on their financial capacity, which makes it difficult for them to operate in complete bliss.
Learning the intricacies of the trade, she told our reporter that what they usually do is to download several social media applications, one of them being the now famous ‘badoo’ and post a good number of ‘sexy’ photos on their profiles.
After that things start to happen. “Men are the same the world over. Once they peruse through your profile and see what you have to offer, they get tempted. The next thing is get their request for a meeting, and within a few minutes or hours, depending on your speed, we have them in a hotel room,” she said.
With the order that the twilight girls should be arrested with their clients -- once found, men find this to be a conducive way of getting their sexual desires quenched, because according to our source, most of them are married men with families – and, therefore, this is a good way of avoiding embarrassment of having your wife to bail you out.
One of the frequent users of this service, who requested anonymity, told our reporter that getting a woman for sexual pleasures has become easy, saying that you can get a woman from the comfort of your home.
He said that on numerous occasions, he has logged into badoo and looked at the right woman. And after short negotiations, which involve exchanging telephone numbers, he directs the woman to a hotel room where they can remain locked up for hours or several days.
“By the way, this saves you a lot of time and money, because you don’t have to be seen in areas where women sell themselves. You just negotiate over the phone even before you meet,” he said.
He noted the social media is not manipulated by twilight girls alone... as homosexuals also take advantage of the situation. Giving an example, he said that there was a time when he was approached by a man on badoo, who was clearly fascinated by him sexually.
He said that this fellow, after going through his profile, sent him a message telling him that he was madly in love with him and if possible they should meet as soon as possible.
“By the way, l was shaken by all this. Of course l gave him a piece of my mind, telling him that l was a straight person and therefore he should direct his interest elsewhere’’.
Another notorious client told our reporter that with the social media, one can become intimate with all types of women, including married women who are out to have a taste of the “forbidden adventure’’.
He said that not to be left behind, other women have resorted to use the system to meet new men, although he admits that most of them are out for sexual adventures.
Passing through Corner Bar in Dar es Salaam, a notorious spot for twilight girls, our reporter observed girls dressed in outfits, which will make a priest sob in distress, conducting their business in a wary manner, watching over their shoulders for any presence of law enforcers.
One of the girls who introduced herself by one name of Esther told our reporter that business was becoming trickier, saying that nowadays you can hardly define a genuine client from an undercover cop, who sometimes pretends to be a customer before flashing a pair of handcuffs on you.
She said that during the day she gets customers through the social media, where men after visiting her profile become easy targets because of the kind of pictures she has posted. Looking over her shoulder, she said that two days before she was in Morogoro for three days, where she had gone to meet a man they met through the social media.
“This man lives in Dodoma and he had seen my profile. So we started chatting and he told me that he is married with four children, and he suggested that we should meet on neutral ground to avoid detection. He sent me money for transport and we had a very good time there,” she confided.
Speaking to our reporter from his office in Dar es Salaam, Jackson Marwa, a marriage counsellor who is also a veteran psychologist, said that with the introduction of the social media, many marriages are going through rocky times because of the high rate of infidelity fuelled by the modern technology.
He said that married couples currently find themselves embroiled in extra marital affairs because of the ease of finding a sexual partner through the social media. And once the partner finds out things become complicated, which in some cases leads to marriage breakup.
He told our reporter that recently, a couple came to his office and in the process of listening to them a serious fight broke out, which resulted in the damage of his flat screen office TV, while the woman ended up in a torn blouse and a black eye.
“The man had gone through his wife’s phone when she was in the bathroom, and according to him, he found nude photos of his wife, which she had sent to several men.
“And because he did not need to be a rocket scientist or some Sherlock Holmes to establish the truth, the man immediately accused her of being a prostitute,’’ he reported.
