WE HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO KNOW WHERE EDGAR GOES - NAWAKWI

By Tilyenji Mwanza
WE have every right to know where Edgar Lungu goes and which people he met in Nigeria because he is defence minister, says FDD leader Edith Nawakwi.
Lungu, the PF presidential candidate, on Wednesday said: “Until the law is changed to know who is funding which political party, no one has the right to question me where I went.”

This was after his secret trip to Rwanda and Nigeria was exposed, prompting him to justify his travel and right to privacy.
But Nawakwi said Lungu exhibited shallow-mindedness as a Minister of Defence.
“Edgar is a Minister of Defence and he should not have a small mind. We have every right to know where the man who holds the key to the armoury has gone. He should not belittle our sense of judgement. If he has gone to Nigeria, we do not know whether he has gone to talk to our friends or he has gone to talk to Boko Haram. He must understand that he is carrying a very heavy responsibility,” Nawakwi said.
Nawakwi reminded Lungu that he was not an ordinary presidential candidate and as such, his privacy was limited.
“Please, tell him that we have the right to know where he goes, and if he goes to Nigeria, we have the right to know who he is talking to. If he does not want us to ask him questions, he must resign immediately,” Nawakwi said.
She said she found it odd that Lungu could be demanding privacy when he was vying for the highest office in the land.
“We are public figures, so what privacy is Lungu talking about? Especially now, people should know where I am. I am in Chipata and I am very well,” she said. “Lungu cannot say no one has the right to ask him. People may have no right to ask an ordinary candidate but he is the Minister of Defence and we have a right to know whether he is getting money from the Ministry of Defence or from his friends. If he did not want us to ask him, he should have quit that position.”
Nawakwi urged Zambians to scrutinise Lungu’s character and desperation.
“That is why I was advising him ‘Iwe Edgar munandi, leave this job, yalakuletelela (Edgar my friend, leave this job, it will put you in problems)’. But because he is selfish, he does not want to give up anything. He wants to be MP, he wants to be Minister of Defence, Minister of Justice. He is scared that when he loses, he will have nothing,” she said.
Nawakwi said Lungu and other PF members had glued themselves to power so much that they would not survive an election defeat.
“Such people who cannot give up a job of Minister of Justice are hanging onto it like inda nabakabatila (holding on like lice). What will they be when they are in State House and availed this massive power?  It will be revenge all over,” said Nawakwi.
