RC: HAND IN SCHOOL LABS A MONTH BEFORE DEADLINE

Babati. All district councils in Manyara Region have been directed to complete the construction of science laboratories in public secondary schools within three months.
The directive was issued by the newly-appointed regional commissioner, Mr Joel Bendera, during his introduction visit to Kiteto and Simanjiro districts recently.
He said, construction of the school labs should be completed in time as the President had ordered and that there should not be any excuse in that. He gave the ultimatum when speaking to local leaders in the two districts, including councillors and village chairpersons as well as council officials.
Mr Bendera, who was transferred from Morogoro, warned that he would quiz officials who will not comply with the order.
“I will have no mercy with officials who will not ensure the laboratories are completed by April 30,” he said, without elaborating on the type of punishment he would give to them.
According to a progress report presented before the RC, Simanjiro and Hanang districts are leading in the number of completed laboratories. Simanjiro, a district inhabited mainly by the nomadic pastoralists, has a total of 14 secondary schools, of which one is private and the rest are run by the government.
Acting Simanjiro District commissioner Martha Umbulla, told the RC that each school will have at least three laboratory rooms for Physics, Biology and Chemistry.
“The government’s intention is to ensure that the teaching and learning environment for science subjects in public secondary schools is improved,” she said.
