Bukoba. Residents in Bukoba Municipality are living in fear and confusion following a series of killings that have been reported in various suburbs for some time now.
The residents of Kibeta Ward where most killings have occurred have since shunned walking in the night as the killers are yet to be identified.
A fortnight ago, Goodluck Francis, 37, was found dead at Anyama Street with his mutilated body left near a house in the street.
The situation became further frightening over the weekend when the body of another resident, Ruturaniza Richard was found beheaded at Magoti Street in the same ward in circumstances similar to the previous one.
Other two killings were reported in Rwamishenye which involved a teenager, whereby the body of an undisclosed person was found dumped near a fish pond.
Also reported recently was the brutal killing of Kagemu Secondary School teacher Dioniz Ng’wandu whose body was found with deep cuts and one person who cheated death after his leg was chopped off by undisclosed assailants.
Kagera regional police commander Henry Mwaibambe confirmed all the killings and said three people were being held in connection with the mysterious deaths of innocent people in various areas of the municipality.
Reacting to the killings, the leaders of the main opposition party Chadema in the region have called for a thorough investigation that would enable arrests of people involved.
“The law enforcers must conduct a thorough investigation to find all people who are involved in these heinous kilings. This is a serious matter that needs immediate response,” noted the chair of Tanzania’s main opposition party, Chadema, in Bukoba Municipality.
