144 PEOPLE UNDERGO EYE OPERATIONS IN RUANGWA

More than 2,500 people with different health complications in Ruangwa District, Lindi Region, have benefited with free screening of diabetes, blood pressure and minor eye surgeries under sponsorship of Bilal Muslim Foundantion and Ruangwa legislator, Kasim Majaliwa.

 
The free health camp was meant for residents of Ruangwa constituency and nearby villages whereby a total of 144 people with sight problems were operated.
 
The Coordinator, Bilal Muslim Foundation, Nurdin Ali told journalists that the services were offered for three days at Ruangwa Primary school grounds. He said the number of people attended has increased compared to 2012 when the exercise was conducted for the first time.
 
Speaking on behalf of the residents, Tanisia Ndaka recommended the organisers saying that free health camps helps most of the people especially those with eye problems to get medication.
“Most of the villagers have no money to afford the cost for eye surgery or even buy spectacles,” she said.
 
According to Tasinia eye services are offered at the district hospital which is located for from their villages. “Some people can hardly get money to pay for the services but they don’t have bus fare.”
 
For his part, Ruangwa Member of Parliament, Kassim Majaliwa said the government plans to improve provision of health services to ‘wananchi’ under the Big results Now (BRN) initiative. 
 
He said the government has started to implement BRN at Ruangwa District Hospital by constructing new building and infrastructures. He said so far they have already bought brand new theater machines which can operate for 24 hours.
 
According to him, the number of specialist doctors has also been increased to 26.
