STOP TELLING LIES, SCHOOLS WARNED

Bagamoyo. The government has warned education officials against falsifying information when reporting on the state of schools.
Reports from some schools across the country suggest a growing tendency by officials to exaggerate enrollment figures.

Some education officials have also of late been accused of lying to the government about the shortage of facilities, while inflating figures with the aim of sourcing for more funds.
“We will not accept a situation where officials take advantage of the challenges our schools are facing for selfish gain,” said the Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administrations and Local Government), Mr Selemani Jafo.
The deputy minister said misrepresentation of facts is a serious breach of public service ethics. He was addressing Standard Three and Four teachers at the official opening of a special training seminar on a new curriculum on fostering reading and writing skills in Bagamoyo.
