Former first Lady Chrisitne Kaseba is being forced into the presidential race by the infamous group called the ‘Cartel’. The Cartel is led by Fred M’membe and members include acting president Guy Scott, most if not all constitutional office holders such as the DPP, Attorney General, the Speaker of the National Assembly and officials like the director of Anti-corruption Commission, and some judges.

And new Permanent Secretary for ministry of information Chanda Kasolo and his brother Anthony Kasolo have resuscitated the demand to conduct a post-mortem or even inquest into what killed president Michael Sata. According to people close to the family, the two nephews of the late president believe that Sata’s widow Kaseba had a hand in the death of their uncle. But the two maybe stopped by Fred M’membe since they are now working for the Cartel and their jobs in government depend on M’membe’s orders.
It is reported that for three days up to the day Sata died, Kaseba and Fred M’membe were having clandestine meeting in London while Sata was battling for his life in hospital.
The country has not been told what exactly killed Sata. Government told the country that Sata had just gone for a routine medical check-up.
When Sata’s remains were brought into the country, the Kasolo brothers and other family members, including Sata’s children demanded that a post-mortem be conducted. But Mulenga Sata prevailed on them by telling that ‘let us just bury and move on.’
Sources at the Post told the Watchdog that time that Kaseba is now under the control of the M’membe and that she will do as told. M’membe is said to have boasted that ‘ I have a lot damaging information on the first lady and if she does not cooperate, I can finish her within a day.’
Apparently M’membe told Kaseba in the London meetings that once Sata dies, he would help her win the presidency. Sources say that when Sata died, the first person Kaseba phoned was M’membe who was still in London waiting as he had been briefed by the first lady of Sata’s condition.
Once M’membe was informed of Sata’s death, he phoned Guy Scott and Attorney General Musa Mwenye with instructions to make Edgar Lungu hand over power.
Some family members insist that Sata was feeling better and was actually discharged but suddenly died about the time Mm’embe and Kaseba were having meetings.
But the Cartel didn’t know that a lot of ministers would want to succeed Sata. Sources say M’membe had taken it for granted that ministers will simply give way and back Kaseba.
When the succession wrangles erupted, the cartel found it difficult to push Kaseba in the ring immediately as they know that Zambians attach great importance to traditions when it comes to death. Imposing Kaseba immediately would have backfired. So they waited and plotted to bring in Kaseba as neutral candidate at the last minute. On the other hand, they pushed Miles Sampa just in case. But the Cartel has observed that Sampa stands no chance as people view him as childish, boastful, corrupt and immoral.
Meanwhile, time for nominations set by the cartel itself was fast running out (though he PF constitution allows filing in nominations up to 24 hours before the conference).
If Kaseba did not file in, it would have been difficult to bring her in as neutral candidate at the last minute. So a decision was made today (Wednesday) to force her to file in. According to Guy Scott, he will bring together all the candidates who have filled in and ask them to agree on one candidate.
This plan was also going to be used in favour of Miles Sampa if Kaseba was not forced in.
According to investigation conducted, the Cartel had planned that all the aspiring candidates be brought into a room where Guy Scott would discourage Given Lubinda and Mulenga Sata from standing due to parentage Clause.
After that, Scott would then tell the remaining candidates to agree on one candidate. After they fail to agree, Scott would ask them to vote. It is hoped that during voting, Mulenga and Selemani Banda the former diplomat would vote for Miles Sampa. Sampa then would have three votes, one from Mulenga, one from Banda and his own. GBM would have just his own vote just like Chishimba Kambwili. Given Lubinda could insist on participating and vote for himself or back Edgar Lungu. Meaning that Edgar would have two votes if Lubinda voted for him. However team Edgar got wind of the plan and Lusaka Lawyer Kelvin Bwalya Fube asked Bob Sichinga to contest so that Sichinga could also back Lungu.
But with the entry of Kaseba, the cartel is expected to re-strategise. The Zambian Watchdog is on top of things and will keep you updated.
But then, if Scott pushes through this strategy and makes even Sampa vote for Kaseba, the question would be, how can Scott agree to use this method when he rejected the Central Committee idea? If Scott believes in the PF constitution as he has been projecting himself in the past few days, how can he allow a system or structure, which is outside the PF internal laws? How can candidates take away the powers of the general conference to elect a leader when Scott said even the Central Committee does not have those powers?
In the next days, M’membe will line up women and other hired voices to talk about the need to vote for a female candidate in his Post newspaper.
And if Geoffrey Mwamba is wise, he must realise that the unprecedented coverage he has been given in the Post newspaper is not genuine but in bad faith and aimed at using him. The same goes for Chishimba Kambwili.
Everybody knows that the Post despises and actually looks down at GBM and Kawmbwilie but will use them to advance the their agenda.
