Dodoma. The government has yet to build police stations in 65 districts even though it plans to establish stations in every division.
The situation raised security concerns in Parliament: Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Mr Hamad Masauni revealed the details as he responded to a question posed by Mr Zuberi Kuchauka (Liwale-CUF) who wanted to know when the government would build a police station in Liwale District which has many traders who fear for their safety.
“These traders need security from the police…I wonder how a district can remain that long (40 years) without a police station," said Mr Kuchauka.
However, Mr Masauni said the district was not alone as 65 others have no stations.
“The government is committed to building the stations in phases depending on the availability of funds," he said adding: "The government aims to build police stations in every area and inspectors have been sent to earmark areas for the establishment of police stations."
