Gulu- Police spokesperson for Aswa Region Jimmy Patrick Okema has said the countrywide police recruitment which will start on January 27 is aimed at strengthening the Force and boosting border surveillance.
He said the recruitment is also part of the preparations for the 2016 general elections. Mr Okema said police will recruit more than 3,500 personnel across the country. Three thousand will be recruited as Probation Police Constables while 500 will be cadets.
“We believe once the personnel are passed out after their trainings, we shall strengthen the number of police personnel in the region especially in the areas bordering South Sudan. We are not saying security at these border points is loose, but the current number of our personnel cannot effectively man the entire border line,” Mr Okema told journalists in Gulu Town on Monday.
He said the personnel currently manning the border points are too few for effective monitoring of the porous crossing points.
