CAROLINE KALOMBE, LusakaFORMER President Rupiah Banda says that he has returned to active politics to complete the development projects which he initiated and to alleviate poverty among citizens.

Mr Banda said during a public rally in Lusaka’s Mtendere township yesterday that poverty and unemployment levels have increased since he left office in 2011.
Mr Banda said he is determined to reduce poverty and unemployment.
“I worked with the people for three years and my cry was to be a President for all Zambians. Poverty is still there, the price of mealie-meal is high and none of you have got the jobs that you were promised by the Patriotic Front (PF),” Mr Banda said.
Mr Banda said he is a democrat and vowed not to be swayed by those who want to use his children to attack him.
He also said the Patriotic Front (PF) should have consulted those who were in power on governance issues to find ways of improving the lives of citizens but that the ruling party failed to do so.
And Mr Banda said his family is very liberal and that his children have a constitutional right to join any political party of their choice.
Meanwhile, Mwandi member of Parliament Michael Kaingu said the MMD has not entered into an alliance with any party but that only a few MPs have decided to do so.
He urged Zambians to support Mr Banda so that he can continue with the projects that he initiated.
Mr Kaingu said MMD will focus on food security through the farmer support system.
