Romelu Lukaku scored his fifth goal in five games as Everton narrowly beat Aston Villa to move into third in the Premier League table.
The Belgian striker was mostly well marshalled but struck from the edge of the box 13 minutes from time.
He overshadowed compatriot Christian Benteke, who earlier had a penalty saved by Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard.
As Villa pressed for a leveller, Leon Osman stroked in late on for Everton's fifth win in six league games.
